Some aspects of thermal inflation: The finite temperature potential and topological defects.

چکیده
Currently favoured extensions of the Standard Model typically contain ‘flaton fields’ defined as fields with large vacuum expectation values (vevs) and almost flat potentials. If a flaton field is trapped at the origin in the early universe, one expects ‘thermal inflation’ to take place before it rolls away to the true vacuum, because the finite-temperature correction to the potential will hold it at the origin until the temperature falls below 1TeV or so. In the first part of the paper, that expectation is confirmed by an estimate of the finite temperature corrections and of the tunneling rate to the true vacuum, paying careful attention to the validity of the approximations that are used. The second part of the paper considers topological defects which may be produced at the end of an era of thermal inflation. If the flaton fields associated with the era are GUT higgs fields, then its end corresponds to the GUT phase transition. In that case, the abundance of monopoles and of GUT higgs particles will have to be diluted by a second era of thermal inflation (or perhaps some non-thermal analogue). Such an era will not affect the cosmology of GUT strings, for which the crucial parameter is the

Study of Stone-wales Defect on Elastic Properties of Single-layer Graphene Sheets by an Atomistic based Finite Element Model
In this paper, an atomistic based finite element model is developed to investigate the influence of topological defects on mechanical properties of graphene. The general in-plane stiffness matrix of the hexagonal network structure of graphene is found. Effective elastic modulus of a carbon ring is determined from the equivalence of molecular potential energy related to stretch and angular defor...

متن کاملCan topological defects be formed during preheating ?
We study the dynamics of a scalar field Φ with potential g(|Φ|− η)/2 (g: self-coupling constant, η: symmetry breaking scale) after inflation and make clear whether topological defects can ever be formed during preheating. In particular, we pay attention to the GUT defects (η ∼ 10GeV − 10GeV), and consider three types of fluctuations. The first one is produced due to parametric resonance, the se...
متن کاملHeat Transfer Modelling in Wide Gap Rail Thermite Welding
In the current study, a thermal model was used to investigate the effects of welding parameters on the distribution of temperature in wide gap aluminothermic rail welds. To solve the governing thermal equation, SUTCAST, a finite difference program (FDM) was employed while different aspects such as phase change and convective heat transfer in weld pool were taken into account in the numerical so...
متن کاملInflation after preheating
Preheating after inflation may lead to non-thermal phase transitions with symmetry restoration. These phase transitions may occur even if the total energy density of fluctuations produced during reheating is relatively small as compared with the vacuum energy in the state with restored symmetry. As a result, in some inflationary models one encounters a secondary, non-thermal stage of inflation ...
